Scottsdale Investment Management
Remember when a half million or a million in a 401(k) mean your money worries were over? That was then, this is now.
“The conventional view serves to protect us from the painful job of thinking.”
― John Kenneth Galbraith
At IQ Wealth, We Believe Consistency and Discipline Can Lead to Financial Independence
The management of your investments should be in line with your principles, priorities, risk tolerance, and time horizon.
Your financial advisor should serve you, not the other way around.
We do not accept commissions on stocks and ETFs, choosing to work strictly from a fiduciary position on a reasonable fee basis. Therefore, our interests are aligned with our clients.
At IQ Wealth, we believe your money belongs to you. It is the fruit of your labor. You deserve to have a feeling of control, clarity and confidence. You've made it once -- making it back again after major losses is counter-productive.
When you are in or near retirement, we believe it's time to get functional with your money, reduce your risk, diversify your positions, separate income capital from growth capital, and get paid to own your investments. Dividends are the most logical way to do that.
Principles for Building Your Portfolio
The past decade has been disastrous for both status quo investors and those who risk their money in hedge funds and alternative investments. Today, investors need a strategy that can produce excess returns while still minimizing the dangers of a volatile market. At IQ Wealth, our recommendations are research-based and client-driven.
- A strategic approach to the selection of quality companies which consistently are profitable and pay consistent dividends
- A selection process with math-based determinants
- Keeping fees to a minimum by using strictly pure equities and ETFs, rather than mutual funds
- Experienced third party investment managers as well as in-house management
Rather than using mutual funds which have layers of fees and and tend to display "style drift" over time, we go directly to the source with stock selections of quality companies and ETFs that meet our stringent requirements.
The IQ Wealth BLACK DIAMOND DIVIDEND Portfolio is a rules based dividend portfolio which requires 10 years of increasing dividends and a minimum of 3% dividend yield for all stock selections. (read more here)
In addition, we work with recognized third party investment managers at Brookstone Capital Management and Global Financial Private Capital. Our clients may choose from an array of portfolios:
- Separately managed accounts, defined risk profiles
- Small cap growth, mid-cap value, large cap growth and large cap dividend
- Real estate, utility and energy opportunities
- Long, short and market-neutral portfolios
Defining Risk, Seeking Opportunity, Remaining Engaged
According to the conventional approach, risk is defined by deviation from a benchmark.
The problem: In severe market downturns, investment strategies that track equity benchmarks can suffer major losses. When time horizon becomes a factor in or near retirement, "buy-and-hold" index strategies tend to be effective in only type of market: bull markets.
In flat and declining markets an un-managed index of even the finest blue chips can lose devastating amounts of capital that can take years to recover. Systematic diversification spreads risk but it does not prevent systemic loss. IQ Wealth and its investment management partners respond to changing economic and market conditions by modifying portfolios accordingly — first, to minimize risk to our clients’ assets, and second, to take advantage of opportunities to increase their returns.
As a manager of other people's money, we have the responsibility to be worthy of the trust placed in us.
By offering unbiased advice, we assist clients in avoiding the numerous pitfalls they are apt to encounter without proper guidance.
What Should You Look for in an Investment Manager?
Investing is a full-time job. But chances are that other obligations reduce the time you can dedicate to it. That's why people turn to an investment manager to help them decide how best to manage their money. Time can also be a challenge for the best professional advisors in the business — from Certified Financial Planners™ to Certified Public Accountants who maintain securities licensing. There are only so many hours in a day and in a week.
At IQ Wealth Management, our business model is to provide personal attention combined with a team approach to managing our clients retirement capital.
IQ Wealth clients work directly with Steve Jurich in formulating a portfolio strategy, determining risk parameters, and developing an investment goal. Steve blends his knowledge of markets, cycles and economies with the development of a personal relationship with each client. In our view, you should never feel like a stranger to your advisor or fear asking the wrong question.
To enhance service to his clients, Steve selects and partners with experienced investment managers that have achieved notoriety on a national and international scale, with assets held in custody at Fidelity Investments.
IQ Wealth maintains a thorough evaluation of our working partners' management strategies, backgrounds and performance records. We monitor their actual implementation and require detailed reporting. Clients have 24/7/365 access to their accounts through Fidelity.com.
We believe the money managers we select serve to expand our clients' opportunity base. They do not act as investment advisors to our clients and are not employees or part of our firm. One such company we have entered into a strategic partnership with is Global Financial Private Capital LLC, an SEC Registered Investment Adviser that actively provides institutional third party services for investment advisory firms across the country, including IQ Wealth Management.
As a point of reference only, and for your due diligence, Global Financial Private Capital LLC, (www.GF-PC.com) has actively managed investments on a fee basis for Fidelity Investments, Raymond James, Charles Schwab, Morgan Stanley/Smith Barney and RBC Wealth Management. No endorsement is implied, however, we believe it is important to know that our choice of Global was based in part on their track record with other partners.
Global utilizes separately managed accounts for our clients, which they manage using what they call Dynamic Investment Allocation Strategies™. This includes conservative income, conservative income with growth and focused growth. Dividend-paying stocks and recession-resistant equities (defensive) tend to play a major role in conservative portfolios.
Through GFPC, and our established relationship of several years, our clients have access to top level advisory services, led by CFA Mike Sorrentino and Chief Investment Officer Christian Bertelsen (click to learn more), who has appeared in major media nationwide. Recently Christian was asked to comment on the outlook for 2014 on CNBC Asia. In the fall of 2013, his comments were seen here regarding the fiscal cliff on the AP Newswire. Christian is not an employee of IQ Wealth Management. He is a resource both for our advisory team and for our clients through our professional relationship.
Global currently oversees more than $3.2 billion under management as a result of providing service to qualified and selected advisors such as IQ Wealth Management throughout the United States. An example of their outlook for 2014 may be viewed here.
In addition to investment management, Global provides IQ Wealth Management with in-depth Morningstar Research and financial plans generated by their Certified Financial Planners based on our client input. In addition, a number of the insurance carriers we work with provide advanced estate planning and potentially tax saving strategies at no additional cost for our clients.
Investment advisory services provided by IQ Wealth Advisory, LLC, a Registered Investment Adviser.
Always consult your tax preparer for tax advice. No principal or employee of IQ Wealth Management offers tax preparation or specific tax advice related to your tax return.
